Although there are a lot of things that are just nice and rewarding about having a new born baby who is cute as a button, the fact is that there can be a whole lot of frustrations as well, and that is no joke. This is especially the case with colic in infants. If you have never heard about colic babies, I envy you a whole lot. The fact is that a colic baby is one which will cry for hours at a time, and which no amount of soothing will get to relax, shut up, and go off to sleep. The thing about colic babies is that it can be hard or impossible to soothe them. No one knows exactly what causes colic babies, and although there are some things that can be done to make them more at ease, a lot of the time, they provide little or no relief from the conditions. If you have colic babies, as I have, you often just have no solution other than to sit back and deal with it. What else are you going to do?
There are some treatments for colic babies that provide some relief. One thing that really works with the twins, Carla and Marla, is to sing songs to them. That, combined with a white noise generator, will usually do the trick in an hour or so. Some times, their infant colic is actually set off by gas, and so if that is treated, they will start to feel better and shut up. There is something called gripe water that you can feed to a baby to ease discomfort. I have used it with each of my kids, and it just does wonders for stomach gas. It makes them feel better almost right away, and that is a great thing to see. Of course, colic babies are not cured just by treating some discomfort or other, but on the contrary, they will still keep crying for quite a while. In the end, however, they will start to settle down and feel better, allowing the parents to get some rest anyway. Anyway, colic babies will get over the colic on their own by four months or so, so there is nothing to worry about. Still, having colic babies can be quite frustrating to a parent!
