Pregnancy and SkinCare
Women are always extra conscious about skin care. However, during pregnancy period, they may face certain pregnancy skin care problems. Some of these are as follows:

Melasma/Mask of Pregnancy: One may find some kind of discoloration of the skin in the end of the second trimester or in the start of third one. Commonly it occurs on cheek, forehead, nose or the upper lips. These dark and irregular patches are because of increased hormones. They tend to fade away after the baby’s birth. Protect yourself against it by minimum exposure to sun and applying sunscreen before going out.

Acne: It can be found commonly among expected mums. It can occur during the first trimester. It is also because of imbalance hormones, consequently, the skin dry out and the outcome is acne. The best method to avoid acne is drinking plenty of water and consuming enough of fruits and vegetables. Your physician can advice you some skin creams and other antibiotics that will not affect the growing fetus.

Pimply Eruptions: They generally occur after the first half of the pregnancy.
Red, raised patches on stomach, thighs and buttocks are pimples, which can be troubling for a pregnant woman. However, these pimples disappear themselves after delivery.

Linea Nigra: Generally, in second trimester, a light line passing from the navel to the public bone’s middle gets darker and takes the form of linea nigra. Nipples may also get darker due to hormonal changes. Linea nigra fades away after few months of delivery.

Dry Itchy Abdomen: This pregnancy skin care problem takes place due to
growing belly. As a result, the skin is stretched and tightened. So, one should use proper moisturizing olive oil to have relief. Avoid hot showers, baths, and usage of drying soaps or products containing alcohol.

Spider Veins: These are red or purple sunbursts on the face, neck, upper chest, legs or arms that appear like spider web, thus are known as spider veins. It may be due to blood circulation and hormonal changes. In that case, you must increase the consumption of Vitamin C and try to avoid crossing your legs so as to reduce spider veins.

Varicose Veins: Pregnant women may face the problem of enlarged veins in the legs. However, it can be reduced by doing light exercises, increased
consumption of Vitamin C and using tights or stockings before you get out of your bed in the morning time. These veins get normal or vanish after delivery.

A pregnant woman is required to take proper rest and have proper sleep so as to reduce pregnancy skin care problems. She must use proper skin care products in accordance with the skin conditions. However, she should not use chemical exfoliant products with AHAs, salicylic acid and glycolic acid. Rather she should use skin care products with sufficient UV filters.
