I was thinking about physical fitness the other day at the mall.  I was looking around and it seems to me that we are all getting fatter.  It might be where I live but I don’t think so.  Do you remember the cereal commercial about pinching an inch?  They can’t even show that anymore because everyone can pinch an inch.  It never used to be this way.  I wonder, is it our diets or fitness?  One thing for sure, it’s defiantly our lifestyle that is to blame.

If you go to the mall look at the people that are shopping.  You will be shocked at the sizes of most people.  I know besides diet the one thing we can do is to stay physically fit.  Our fitness level is key to a quality life.  You don’t have to be an Olympic superstar but you should do something to stay young.  Physical fitness is easy if you like what you are doing.  If you hate it, it’s not going to be something you keep up with.

One thing I can never come to terms with is weight. I won't give you the diatribe about weight loss and how I managed to drop 75 pounds, because it would all be a lie. The fact is I have never been fat and I have never had to count calories. My metabolism is incredibly fast. I presume most of it is genetics. Nevertheless, this doesn't steer me away from physical fitness and good exercise. I train martial arts and lift weights regularly. I figure I had better work to maintain that metabolism going for when I hit 40 and 50. What's more I would like to be strong, in shape, and be an example for my kids. I think we all s

hould be doing this. It's very important to get kids started at a young age.

Nothing is worse than seeing a small child who is obese. This is dreadful! I wonder what other cultures think when they visit the United States. They probably think we're a bunch of fast food eating bums. They probably laugh at our poor diet and obesity epidemic. We are supposed to be a great nation.  Why so many overweight people? It's really time to stop this madness. I don't recall what fitness guru said that, but she was right on the money. We need to teach our children good physical fitness and be positive their health is not in jeopardy. Are you with me, folks? Okay, so we already know they learn physical fitness in their school. This starts in grade one.

In addition to this, we parents need to help them with proper diet and exercise at home. Always promote outside play with your children. I do this with my seven year old daughter and she really likes the outdoors. The last thing she wants is to be inside the house. She gets lots of exercise this way. In addition, be sure that you're providing your children with a good diet. This means very little sugar, salts and saturated fats. Do away with fast food completely. My family did, and it's so much better for our health.

I hope that physical fitness is now on the top of your priority list. Even if you do not have kids to teach good physical fitness to, take great care of yourself. Exercise every day and adopt healthy eating habits. This can have a great effect on your life and attitude.

Don’t wait until tomorrow to get into shape and start working on your physical fitness.  Start right now.  Clean out your cupboards and refrigerator of all junk food.  Go to the store and stack up on healthy food.  You won’t be sorry.
